Bringing History to the Classroom: Facsimiles for K–12 Learning.

In June 2024, the Clements Library partnered with Ann Arbor Public Schools to pilot a workshop for middle and high school History teachers. The program expanded K–12 curricula to include underemphasized topics and highlighted how the library’s collections can support AAPS educators, students, and the broader community.
Facsimiles, or high-quality copies, of our primary resources are a great way to bring history to the classroom. Providing copies of remarkable, history changing moments like General Thomas Gage’s draft orders to Lt. Col. Francis Smith for the Concord Expedition, which led to the opening shots of the American Revolution on April 18, 1775. Materials like these, are a wonderful way to ignite students passion for early American history.
