Jones was the Physical Director at YMCA Nashville and author of Classified Gymnasium Exercises. An instructive guide for introducing “Indian Clubs” as a form of physical education for students. Indian Club Swinging had its Olympic debut in 1904 but had been gaining traction as a serious athletic pursuit in the United States throughout the second half of the nineteenth century, becoming more of a staple in vaudeville and artistic performance in the 20th.
