Memoirs of Elleanor Eldridge. Boston: B. T. Albro, 1847. 128 pp.

Eldridge, born in 1784 in Rhode Island, was the granddaughter of a Narragansett woman and an enslaved African man. After expanding her business ventures and becoming quite successful, she was deprived of her property and sought support to recover it. She co-wrote her memoir with a white writer, Frances Harriet Whipple Green, in order to raise funds for this effort, which was ultimately successful. The memoir describes the injustices she suffered and includes testimonials from friends concerning her right to recover her lost property.
