Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass

Adopted by

Frank and Judy Wilhelme

Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass was first published in 1855 and frequently revised and expanded. This 1860 edition by Thayer and Eldridge is 456 pages long and features an elegant engraved frontispiece, depicting Whitman as a genteel romantic poet with a silk cravat. To this edition, Whitman added a total of 146 new poems, as well as revising earlier poems.
