How to Request Materials

Getting Started

New readers will need to register with the Clements before placing requests for materials to use in the reading room. If you would like to order photocopies or scans of material, please visit our Duplication and Use page.

  1. Follow the instructions on our registration page to create your account and register with the library. You do not need to be at the Clements to register—we encourage you to register from your home computer, as you will need to access your email to complete the process.
  2. Already registered? Go to Account Login at the top of the page to get started.
  3. Once your request account is set up and you’re logged in, you can place requests for materials directly from the library catalog and finding aids. See below for more detailed instructions. 
  4. Please note: Some materials may take time to retrieve. Place your requests in advance of your visit and contact us to confirm your visit dates.

Finding Aid Instructions

  1. Search for library materials in the finding aids.
  2. From the Contents List of a finding aid, select one or more checkboxes next to the material you want. Click Request at the top of the contents list.Check a box and click the request button
  3. Confirm your request details and select a Research Topic and Visit Date.
  4. Click Submit RequestClick the submit request button
  5. If prompted, log in using your request account details. weblogin
  6. You can track the status of your request from your request account

Library Catalog Instructions

  1. Search the library catalog to find books, maps, prints, photographs, and more.
  2. Click the Request This link in a record to start your request. For archival materials, follow the link to the online Finding Aid and use instructions above. Request this link in catalog record
  3. If prompted, log in using your request account details.weblogin
  4. Confirm your request details and select a Research Topic and Visit Date.submit request
  5. Click Submit Request.
  6. You can track the status of your request from your request account.
